Stay in Palatial surroundings in Saxony
Sometimes you need to stay in a palace, OK I’d like to stay in one more often but as Champagne taste on a lemonade budget seems to be our motto. As part of our annual pilgrimage to Germany, we picked Bautzen in Saxony as a place to visit. Not only is it the home of our favourite mustard it is also a beautiful and historic town as well. Being in such a picturesque town, we needed to stay in suitably grand accommodation. Here is our review of Suite Hans in Bautzen.
Suite Hans is located in the depths of the old town, near the city walls and castle. We arrived late in the day after a tour around Bautzen with Monk Eusabius. Check in was easy, as we had been given a code for our room key and full instructions were inside the room.
Inside our apartment
Our room was on the first floor of the palace, through a suitably grand double door.
Inside our apartment, we have a double bed, a single bed and a cot. There are also tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge. In this main bedroom you will also find….
A bath! I love my mother, but there is a limit to even what I will do in front of her! Although, I suppose she has seen it all before. Not to worry this isn’t the only means of keeping clean at Suite Hans, there is a separate bathroom.
A large, historic bathroom with everything you need including luxurious toilettries.
It’s a quirky apartment and this continues downstairs where there is an honesty cellar!
With the weather being hot, this was the place to hang out. Here you will find red, white and rose wine, as well as sparkling wine, beer and soft drinks.
It was a little bit creepy…..
We didn’t have breakfast here, as we like to explore the local breakfast options (and we like a lie in as well!) however the breakfast gets a good write up online, and the room looked appealing. Guests staying at the Gersdorff Palace can either dine in the breakfast room, or have breakfast brought to the suite. On offer for breakfast is croissants, crepes and cakes, warm and cold antipasti, choice of boiled egg, scrambled egg or fried egg, jams, honey, chocolate spreads, yoghurt, muesli, cereal and fruit, smoothies, orange juice plus speciality coffee, tea, hot chocolate.
If you are lucky enough to visit on a Sunday, there is also champagne and salmon available.
Verdict
We loved Suite Hans. It was quirky, historic and beautiful. Located within the historic heart of Bautzen was a big plus for us. It wasn’t too far to wander to find attractions such as the Bautzener Senfstube, the Tourist Information Centre and of course the local bars!
