It was the day after Glasgow Beer Club meet at the Old Stag Inn, carbs were needed.

The Blue Lagoon always has a bad rep, however the one in Shawlands has always come up trumps with us so after a visit to the Fabby Youngs Books on Skirving Street, we headed in.

Inside has plenty of space for tables considering the small corner site.

Fish and chips, only one fish here as compared to the usual two. Well cooked chips, light batter on the fish.

Half cheese and tomato pizza with fresh chips.

The tea was good too, not weak at all. Fresh bread which was butterered freshly too.

  1. This shop has now changed hands and the quality has deteriorated in some respects. Prices have gone up too. Had some chips this week and they were awful – very greasy, almost slimy and undercooked. Sausages are not as tasty as they used to be, although whether that is the cooking or more inferior products it’s difficult to say. New young chefs could use a lesson in how to fry chips properly. They should take a trip to Anstruther fish bar on the east coast – they are amazing – seriously good fish and chips. The Shawlands shop would do a roaring business if they cooked like that. Another customer was complaining and the young man behind the counter was very dismissive – actually very assertive in his dismissal. It’s a real shame – I hope they improve.
