Finally a proper tapas bar in Glasgow. La Boca is next to Opium on Hope St (best remembered as the street the buses go up!)
We love it so we’ve been quite a few times since it opened last year but our pictures are always rubbish – you can always tell if a place is good if food bloggers eat their food rather than taking photos of it! Food and ambiance-wise this is probably as close as you get to authentic tapas without leaving the country! Mr Foodie’s Spanish friend loves it too and verified the authenticity. With the busy kitchen, chatter from the tables and no pressure from the owner – it’s almost like you are sitting back in Malaga (we wish!).
It was a busy night and we were advised that there were kitchen issues with something not working and being a team member down but this was explained to us by the waiting staff. The owner came around to check all was ok and explained the problems. No worries we were out for a chilled night and were taking it Spanish style – more time for checking out the Spanish beers and wines!
We have visited a few times and will have to go back again soon as the menu has changed.
We ordered a few dishes to share…
Bouquerones – marinated anchovy fillets with crisps. Tart little anchovies, we should’ve ordered a dish per person as they are so good!
Not rubbery or chewy and coated with a light batter.
Fried aubergine in batter with sugar cane honey.
Very like a meaty textured French toast with the cane syrup taking the bitterness off the aubergine.
Creamy soft potatoes, sage scented buttery sauce and melt in the mouth meat.
We are firm fans of their padron peppers, spinach and blue cheese croquettes as well as the Spanish black pudding.
Great food, unusual Spanish beer and relaxed surroundings with pleasant atmosphere makes this our favourite tapas restaurant in Glasgow at the moment.
