Emma The best fish shop in Glasgow
One of my earliest foodie memories is visiting The Fish Plaice. Laughing at the signs “fish is said to give ye brains, so take some home and feed the weans”, standing in the forever huge queue and watching birds beng plucked, fish being gutted and listening to the banter. It was all very confusing but fun.
They have brought themselves bang up to date with their pop up restaurant, finished now but hopefully will be back. Thankfully the amazing fish shop is still at the back, the treasure trove of fish and meat.
Father foodie jumped at the chance of going back, so a late lunch was arranged so we could get a seat.
We settled down quickly to our table and ordered a couple of Innis and Gunn beers whilst checking out the menu.
As well as the menu there were specials such as a platter with lobster and langoustine as well as fries for £35. We decided to go for this and a side of Mothers Pride bread with butter.
The wait wasn’t long, we could see the busy kitchen churning out platters and plates.
The lobster was plain, perfectly cooked and sectioned for easy eating. The langoustine popped out if their shells with ease. No stabbed fingers!
I threw caution to the wind with a piece n lobster and chips – delicious!
The platter was soon demolished.
Afterwards we wandered up to the end of the lane to peek into the shop. It was just as I remembered. The only difference being some exotic meats added to the sale list. Same friendly banter and huge selection if fish.
Sadly the pop up has gone (please come back!) but get down to the shop for some good quality and well priced fish or you can order online!
