The Hinds Head, Bray – April 2011

Hind's Head, Bray

If it was good enough for Prince Philip’s stag do it was good enough for the birthday boy. Surprised to be able to book a table for Easter Sunday on the same week we scrubbed ourselves up to match Berkshire’s finest.

After a gin & tonic and a half of Windsor Knot pale ale to celebrate the impending wedding, we left the union flag-festooned bar for the main eating area.

ham hock terrineham hock and foie gras terrine with piccalilli

Superb flavours the piccalilli just had the right amount of tang to liven up the ham

tea-smoked salmon with soda breadtea-smoked salmon with soda bread

tasty salmon however not much of a tea smokiness

Roast beefRoast beef with the best yorkie I’ve tasted in a restaurant, gorgeous horseradish sauce too.  the beef was tender, moist and a refreshing pink colour.

chicken, leek and ham pieChicken, leek and ham pie with a side of triple-cooked chips

Birthday boy wasn’t happy with the size of the pie but it was full to the brim and tasty.

quaking pudding

Quaking pudding  – kind of like an egg custard pudding, pretty bland.

lemon tart

lemon tart – zesty and thick, full of flavour.

£96.75 for two half pints, a G&T, one glass of wine and two, three-course dinners.    Delicious food and great service but it’s a Heston fan-ville.

Note: since our visit, the Hind’s Head was awarded a Michelin star.
