Unexpectedly tasty but not unlucky!
After taking part in the Shearer Candles Doors Open Day Factory Tour, it was time for some food. So Mama C and myself ventured across Govan Cross to somewhere I’d never noticed before, Cafe 13, which is ideally placed for anyone coming from further away as it’s across the road from Govan bus and underground stations.
It looks hipsterish from the outside and inside it has an eclectic mix of styles. I quite liked their mix of shabby chic and hipster i.e. mixed tables and chairs with bare lightbulbs.

We were after something lighter than a big lunch. No one told us what the soup was but they have a limited toastie selection so we picked the mac ‘n’ cheese toastie and a cheese and tomato toastie with two teas. The order came out fairly quickly but look at size of that! It was going to be a big lunch after all! 😍
Two thick slices of crispy cheesy bread filled with mac ‘n’ cheese and served with a spicy mayo dip.
The bread was crispy and the mac ‘n’ cheese was quite simply cheesy – will have to try their mac ‘n’ cheese on its own next time! Mama C was too quick for me to a photo, that toastie was off! It looked good and how quickly it disappeared meant it must’ve been! 👍 Good strong tea as well.
We didn’t have time to delve into the cake selection sadly so another visit is needed! Toilets were tidy and clean. Not sure why it’s called Cafe 13 but Govan is on the up!
TL;DR
+ Great addition to Govan
+ Tasty toasties
+ Clean toilets
+ Excellent location
– Could do with more sandwich options
– Not told what the soup of the day was
Location
Cafe 13, 794 Govan Road, G51 2YL – just across from the subway/bus station.
