Buddy's BBQ and Burgers, Skirving Street, Glasgow

After reading a rave review from a fellow blogger and the demand caused we thought we’d try it out. Turned up at 5.30 to a queue out the door. By this time the racks of ribs were all gone after only opening at 5! Ordered a western burger, pulled pork sandwich, 6 buffalo wings, Cajun fries, mac n cheese and two cans – £18. Oof!  After a lot of standing about, chaotic scenes behind the counter, more standing, our order was ready – at 6.30!  We got an extra pork roll free to make up for it.

We got home ( we live next to the nearby railway stn ten min walk max) to cold food :(.   Fries were good,- western burger good,  coleslaw home made but mac n cheese bad – floury sauce and tasteless.

Pork rolls cold and wings cold – unsure about buffalo flavour.

Disappointed after the wait but will probably try again when it’s settled.

  1. Food cools quickly. It is not the fault of the place that your food cooled down on the way home. Really annoys me when people complain about this as it’s so obvious. Sit in with your burger next time if it’s an issue!

Re sitting it, I would however it is a takeaway so one would assume the food would stay a bit warmer when wrapped up.

    1. The whole point of takeaway food is that it’s eaten straight away!! I am quite shocked by this review – did you see the review in the HErald this Saturday (22nd?)….was uber complimentary!! Having eaten the western burger myself, to say it was good is a TOTAL understatement…this is a new innovative taste fresh to Glasgow. I for one will be going back. Often!!

Hi Katie, after standing waiting for an hour I fancied eating sitting down and not walking down the road trying to eat my dinner.

  3. Went to buddy’s last night and it felt like a pilgrimage, with small, huddled groups of people excitedly waiting outside for their order. I waited about a half hour for a Western burger and a Buddy’s special with cajun fries and made the mistake of not including my friend in my order so I had to wait with my food in the cold for a couple of extra minutes while we waited for his (d’oh). Luckily, my friends flat is on the same street so the food was still a bit warm when we got in. Overall I thought all the food was excellent, in particular the special which had a perfect balance of flavours and textures. The crunchy-ness of the onion rings on the western burger was amazing, as was the bacon which was expertly cooked. The cajun fries were also enjoyable. I can understand your disappointment at the tempreture of your food, or the length of your wait, but I tend to agree with Katie on this one. The man just makes the food as fast as he can and hands it out, he can’t ultimately be responsible for it retaining heat for the length of a train journey. To be completely fair the length of my wait was completely overshadowed by the quality of the food and I will certainly be back to sample the other delights on offer. If I could give one suggestion it would be to include an eating challenge to fully embrace the american cuisine tradition, maybe a spicy pork sandwich, or some type of mammoth burger, the completion of which gets your picture or name on the wall. Apart from that I can’t fault the place at all and will be recommending Buddy’s BBQ to everyone I know.

Sorry probably not explained myself not a train journey away, but we live next to the local train station which isn’t too far away. We were going to give it another go on Monday but it was closed 🙁 Hope to nip in again.
