Tebay – The best motorway service station in the UK?
Motorway services aren’t known for their prettiness or indeed comfort and welcome. Usually it’s a quick toilet stop, stretch of the legs, maybe a sandwich and back to the driving. Tebay, however, is something different.
We stopped here for lunch on our way back from our Foodiemoon for some sustinence and time out from the drive North.
Local stone and timber buildings are surrounded by greenery. So much nicer than the awful Bridgwater Services the day before, which has just been ranked as the 5th worst service station in the UK!
There are dog walking areas, ducks and a pond to chill out at. Much better than sitting surrounded by concrete and exhaust fumes.
First stop food. Sandwiches, soups and hot meals on offer.
The sandwiches and cakes caught our eye. So onto the tray they went.
Our tray suitably filled with goodies, we ate whilst chilling out beside the duck pond.
The sandwiches were fresh, moist and filled with flavour. 👍 for the tasty focaccia bread. The cakes were also worth stopping for. Chunks of cherry in the bakewell muffin 😍.
Alongside the restaurant area is a separate farm shop, so of course we went for a look.
Excellent selection of food and drink on offer. Full butchers shop here so you can buy specific cuts or pick up a pre-pack.
Mr Foodie was of course in heaven with the beer and spirits selection.
I had to pull him away from the displays to return to our journey home!
Good to see Mr C’s delicious pies on sale as well 😍👏
Tebay is easily the best motorway services we’ve stopped at but you do of course pay for the privelidge.
