Currywurst or Ketwurst – GDR snack time at Alain Snack
Alain’s Snack Bar in Prenzlauer Berg not only dates back to the days of East Berlin, but it serves a popular GDR East Berlin snack called Ketwurst.
What is Kettwurst?
Ketwurst (or Kettwurst) is a sausage covered in ketchup and squeezed into a hollowed-out roll. The ketchup isn’t as spicy as currywurst. Not the prettiest of snacks to look at, or to eat. Keep a load of napkins handy for slurpage.
Want to try some more? Visit Konnopke’s Imbiss in Prenzlauer Berg, which has been serving up classic currywurst and boulette for decades.
A visit to Alain Snack is worth it for the architecture, ketwurst, and currywurst. Also on sale are Bio and Vegan food to take away.
