Curry 36 Currywurst best in Berlin

Currywurst at the Zoo

There are two things you must eat in Berlin,  currywurst mit soße is one of them, the other is a doner kebap.  For cheap eats you can’t beat either.  One of the many currywurst vendors in the city is Curry 36, which can be found in a couple of locations – click here for Curry 36 locations.

The story goes that Currywurst was created in Berlin in the years following the end of World War II. Herta Heuwer apparently began serving pork sausages with a sauce made from tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce and curry powder.  If you are adventurous, you can find a plaque commemorating the birth of the Currywurst on the side of a supermarket on the corner of Kaiser-Friedrich-Strasse and Kantstrasse.

Menu

The menu at Curry 36 has more than just currywurst.  There’s Bockwurst (sausage traditionally made from ground veal and pork – sometimes smoked too), Bratwurst (sausage made from veal, beef, or most commonly pork), Boulette (ground beef or pork Berlin-style hamburgers).

Don’t be scared to try them all, as they are all  cheap!

Order your currywurst the Berlin way, boiled and naked (“ohne darm”, without skin) then slathered with curry sauce and a cheeky splodge of mayo.

Verdict

👍

A cheap and tasty snack in a popular area. Easy to order, prices clearly displayed. As it’s a kiosk there are no toilets though. Would come back to work through the whole menu!
