Heaven Scent Cafe at Dunfermline Library and Galleries is the second such Heaven Scent cafe, the original being in the small town of Milnathort, just north of Kinross, a 30 minute drive away.
This is certainly no ordinary gallery cafe. All food allergies and dietary requirements appear to be covered from gluten-free to vegan. We noticed that the afternoon tea is a popular choice, as evidenced by the photo below. Stacks of cake tiers abound as groups of friends made light work of the delicious looking nibbles.
Starting with the cakes, I mean, look at them – not your usual dinky little morsels these are proper home-sized slices. On our visit we had carrot cake. 😍
Alongside the massive slices of cake are tiffin and rocky road traybakes, plus macarons and fresh fruit. All with a fine dusting of icing sugar.
Scones, so often a deal breaker for us and these were light and fluffy with Tiptree jams and proper clotted cream – hurrah! None of the out-of-a-can skooshy stuff, this was proper Roddas clotted cream so we were happy.
Generally overshadowed by the cakes in an afternoon tea, the sandwich selection was freshly prepared. So often in the past we have had bread that had been cut well in advance and was starting to harden but not here. We had ham and cheese, mango chicken and salad leaves, ham with light mustard mayo, tuna mayonnaise with salad leaves and cheese and kaleslaw (coleslaw made with kale) so a good selection to nibble on. The mango chicken was especially noted for its moist chunky chicken and fresh mango taste.
And although it’s ‘Afternoon tea’ it needn’t have to all just be tea., you can have a coffee like Mr Foodie, whilst I had a pot of green tea which was covered in the funkiest of tea cosies. Seemingly it is the mum of the owner who makes these and they are available to buy in both of the Heaven Scent locations. You can also have a small bottle of fizz (prosecco) for an extra £5.95 per person.
A child-sized afternoon tea for kids can also be ordered at £7.95 per child, which includes ham, cheese and jam sandwiches, fresh fruit with a chocolate dip, mini gateau, popcorn, sweets and a choice of drink. either milkshake, hot chocolate or a carton of juice.
Excellent value afternoon tea charged at £13.50 per person, which required a doggy bag for later and is making me hungry writing this! They take dietary requirements seriously, they’re licensed and it’s great to see that children can join in on the fun too. Easy to get to being right in the centre of Dunfermline and staff were all very helpful. Due to demand the afternoon tea has to be ordered in advance. (see the reservations details below) but if you passing through the town it is probably the best place to stop for a drink, cake or sandwich. Thumbs up!
