Lunch with a panoramic view of Bautzen

Wandering around being a tourist is thirsty and hungry work, especially after reading about food at the Bautzen Mustard Museum.  Needing to rest our legs for a bit, get some local brew and some food we decided that Alter Bierhof ticked our food and drink requirements.   It looked like the kind of traditional German pub we like, so in we went.

As well as the usual pub layout inside there is a terrace outside.  It was getting to that burning of our Scottish skin stage, so we decided to sit inside and admire the terrace from behind glass and in the shade.

The menu here serves a lot of meat, there are some vegetarian dishes available however there didn’t seem to be any vegan options.

Mark picked the one of the specials from the Spargelzeit menu, white asparagus and cherry tomatoes with tagliatelle.  Perfect for this weather. Tender white asparagus served in a creamy sauce with thick tagliatelle.

Myself and the mother picked what was listed on the menu as Bierhofs Bröselteppich – which translates as Bierhofs Crumb Carpet!  Really it is a schnitzel filled with smoked cheese and bacon, served with a cucumber salad and garlic potatoes.

None of your watery schnitzel here, deliciously filled with bacon and cheese.

Bierhof House beer for all of us, a refreshing quaff on this hot day.

Look out for the old cheeky beer adverts…oooer alterbierhof
