Review: The Corona Bar, 1039 Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow ***CLOSED***

Waiting for tumbleweed…

Located at a busy junction with historical anecdotes on the outside, this pub should be busy at all times but it’s not. Sunday afternoon; Shawlands is busy with people wandering about, looking for brunch, a chat, yet The Corona is eerily quiet.

If it wasn’t for the TV screens showing sport there wouldn’t be a sound.

The bar stock seems light, staff are busy chatting to each other and watching the TV. They seem bored.

Corona bar toilet

The toilets have seen better days, they’ve always been a bit on the “wet” side – I don’t think the sewers at this end of Shawlands are very good.

Corona bar rear

What I recall as the rear eating area in a previous visit now looks neglected with sticky tables and a depressed looking sofa.

Corona bar dirty seats and floor

In the main bar area the floor covering is well worn and sticky, as is the seating. The whole place is in dire need of refurbishment.

There’s rumours of a new owner, I hope this is the case as the bar is filthy & empty and desperately needs some life in it!
