From 9th-23rd October, Edinburgh’s taste buds will be set alight by exclusive menus, special offers and mouth-watering events in over 60 of the best loved eateries across the capital, including L’Escargot Blanc, A Room in the West End and The Stockbridge Restaurant. Watch out for special set menus available across the Capital in three budget categories (under £10, under £20 and more than £20).
Culinary stars will join to launch the festival on Wednesday 8th October with the Edinburgh Restaurant Festival – The Chef’s Table. The fine-dining extravaganza of five delicious courses, each meticulously devised by the city’s top chefs, Mark Greenaway, Craig Sandle, Stuart Ralston and Paul Wedgwood, will be served up under the sparkling lights of the beautiful Ghillie Dhu.
The tempting dishes, which include the likes of Lobster Thermidor Creme Brûlée, Smoked Salmon, Pear and foraged Sweet Cicely and succulent Red-Legged Partridge, are all matched with a wine, beer or cocktail to best complement the bold flavours. Not forgetting a dessert of Clootie Dumpling with Treacle Meringues, thoughtfully preceded by the perfect pallet-cleanser cocktail, the Elderberry Royale, prepared by New York mixologist to the stars, Aizle’s Krystal Goff.
With special gastronomic events taking place throughout the fortnight, food-lovers can indulge in the likes of the Old Town Street Food Festival at the Three Sisters, children’s pizza-making workshops at Mamma’s American Pizza Co and Eat Walk Edinburgh tasting tours of the Old and New Towns. Drop into Harvey Nichols Foodhall, Gusto, Cranachan & Crowdie and Crowne Plaza Edinburgh, to experience some delicious food and drink themed matching events and experience a range of delicious local and international street food at the Grassmarket and Stockbridge Markets.
Adding a dash of mystery to the classic G&T, the Great Edinburgh Gin Treasure Hunt will transcend across the city centre’s cocktail bars on Saturday 18th October. The West End Beer Festival follows on Sunday 19th October with a strong, stout programme of ‘meet the maker’ taster sessions with the likes of Brewer Speyside, Brewer Barney’s Beer and Brewer Alchemy.
With more restaurants per head of population than anywhere else in the UK, the Edinburgh Restaurant Festival aims to encourage locals to get out and explore the city’s rich dining scene, and help further raise the profile of the participating bars, bistros and restaurants across the city.
The diet can start on 24th October, but until then visit www.thisisedinburgh.com for all the delicious details.
