Event: Beer tasting masterclass, Tennent’s Training Academy, 161 Duke St, Glasgow G31 1JD

Grunting Growler @ Tennent's Training Academy

What better way to start the weekend than with beer tasting at the Tennent’s Training Academy at the back of Tennent’s brewery on Duke Street. Join beer geek Jehad Hatu from Grunting Growler as he takes you through the history of this popular alcoholic beverage; learn about malt, hops, barley and er, water – yes water makes a difference as you’ll discover (you’ll also find out why a growler is called as growler!).

Served in glasses suitable for picking up the aromas, you will look at the colour, liveliness and of course taste – with food pairings, the charcutière and cheese were excellent and there was some chocolate too! I won’t say what the beers were on this occasion but we started with a light lager and then tried various styles like a traditional ale, sour fruity lambic, IPA, a dark beer and a spiced seasonal beer, we had samples from eight beers in total and there were a few local ones, including one from Glasgow’s newest brewers Floodline that we’d never seen before.
