Danish Whisky
One of the first distillers in Scandinavia, Stauning is the oldest distillery in Denmark. Those involved in creating Stauning had no experience or knowledge in whisky production. The nine friends (a doctor, a chef, a butcher, a teacher, a helicopter pilot and four engineers), didn’t have much when they started out in 2005, but they wanted to learn.
Distilled in 24 pot stills, every ingredient in their whiskies is grown/sourced from within 40 miles – the barrels being the exception.
Rye – Entry-level whisky launched during the lockdown. Aged in American Oak with Alligator char casks. Smooth, chocolate taste.
Kaos – A 3 cask rye and barley blend. Heather smoked and aged in Madeira, peated and non-peated single malts. Very peaty and smoky.
Smoke – Matured in Heather smoked Madeira, American Oak, Jamaican Rum (1st fill), and Makers Mark (1st fill). 46%, similar to Caol Ila.
Bastard – Stauning Bastard a rye whisky and after three years in new, toasted virgin American oak casks, it has been rounded off with 6-months ageing in old mezcal casks from Mexican Oro de Oaxaca.
El Classico – El Clásico is a matured rye whisky that has additionally been aged in vermouth casks.
