Food review: @Pizza, Charlotte Lane, Edinburgh

Take your ‘at off to @pizza

Brand new @pizza is slightly hidden, just off Shandwick Square and next to Foundary 39 on Charlotte Lane – the lane where further down you’ll also find Indigo Yard and Sygn. We understand that it was just an office before it took on its new life as the provider of Edinburgh’s fastest pizza!?

It looks and feels new. Inside, it’s large and open-plan with an industrial feel. There’s mixed seating with regular tables & chairs and stools.

There’s no table service so order at the counter. The process is simple and works a bit like the ‘production line’ in a Subway sandwich shop.

Firstly, there’s a choice of base, sourdough or 100% ancient grain (sounds mysterious!) We sampled both of course! Then there are the toppings, 8 possible combos are suggested but you don’t need to order any of these, in fact, you’re encouraged to order whatever toppings you want but should you be on a diet the calorie content for each is listed!

All pizzas are £9.50 regardless of what base, sauce or toppings you want and you have a large selection to choose from, including plenty of vegetarian (V) and vegan (Ve) options.

So you whip along in order from right to left adding your toppings from sauce to cheese to vegetables to meat to finishes, and then watch your pizza going through the oven at the end.

The finished product!

Their USP is speed and both our pizzas were ready to eat in no time at all!@pizza edinburgh glasgow foodie explorers
Mrs. Foodie decided to go off menu with a tuna and sweetcorn mix.  Starting with a garlic and ricotta base, then topped with tuna, sweetcorn. Scottish mozzarella and pickled peppers.  A bit of a mixture of tastes there!   A crisp base with a creamy sauce and good amount of topping for flavours but not too over-loaded, while Mr. Foodie ordered The Heartbreaker (The Hot One at 860 Cal) which comprises of Roquito Pepper, Scottish Mozarella, Pepperoni, Spicy Italian Sausage, Fresh Jalapeño, Grilled Red Onion, Rosemary and Sriracha Sauce.

We washed our pizzas down with some low sugar self-service sodas which are free from artificial colours and flavours. There’s a choice of: Apple & Bramble; Sicilian Lemonade; Peach & Honey Iced Tea; Mango & Blood Orange; Ginger, Lime & Mint; and Grapefruit & Juniper. They are all £2.25 and around 100 Cal per glass.

If you want some booze, there’s a choice of 3 ready-made cocktails: Coconut Mojito, Raspberry Cosmo and Peach Appletini.

There’s also Minivino wine and local beer from Stewart Brewing and the Edinburgh Beer Factory.

Disclaimer: we received free pizza on our visit but Fred says it looks a lot better than any of the cat food he’s eaten recently, in fact, he quite fancies a custom pizza with all the meat!
