Grand Cru, 79 Hanover St, Edinburgh

Went to Grand Cru as we liked the look of it from the outside and it was breakfast time and we were starving.

We visited around 11am and the staff were still trying to sort out the place from the night before… a bit of a worry when you are punting yourself as somewhere swishish to go for breakfast.

We ordered a couple of coffees and some food.  The coffee arrived quickly and was good. £1.60 each, which we thought was good for Edinburgh.

We went for Waffle with Bacon  called The American (£7.50)

grand cru wafflestraight out the packet sweet waffle…great thought to presentation. ….£7.50 worth?

grand cru muffinNo muffin, a barely toasted roll with no explanation.  The sauce was good but tepid.  I mentioned this to the member of staff…blank face.  £4.50 for this.

The toilets are shared with the Italian Restaurant next door and are a bit of a hike to get to.  Tired and in need of an overhaul, I got there in time to see last nights glasses just being cleaned away, toilet roll all over the floor and filthy toilets.

No comments from staff about the lack of “muffin”, the state of the toilets or to the general “its just opened feel” when they really should have this kind of stuff sorted before people come in.
