The Grill Room on The Square, No29, 29 Royal Exchange Square, Glasgow

The Grill Room on the Square, looks the part. I was invited to lunch here and looked forward to it immensely. Knowing it’s reputation for steak and it’s good kitchen. I wasn’t disappointed.

With the glitzy decor, friendly and professional staff as well as the ability to catch up on some paperwork, No.29 worked, and this was before entering the restaurant.

Once inside, the huge windows look down onto the busy Royal Exchange Square but inside you could be a million miles away. The staff are there but don’t annoy you, the hubbub from the kitchen is comforting and the food smelled delicious.

I picked the 29 Prawn Cocktail, which was described as having a
Spicy tomato dressing. Didn’t really get the spice, however, the dish tasted fresh, prawns meaty and a creamy sauce.

My lunch dates both went for chicken liver pate with oatcakes and red onion marmalade. Demolished quickly. The pate was said to be creamy and smooth.

A shepherds pie for a chilly day. I’m not a fan of mince but this looked thick and tasty. Good layer of piped mash on the top as well.

Ravioli with asparagus and lemon. Crisp asparagus with tart lemon went well with the ricotta pasta. The sauce coated each piece of pasta perfectly.

Roast chicken with winter vegetables. More hearty winter food, strong tastes from the vegetables and the jus to liven up,the chicken.

We were stuffed after this and could only face coffee. Good sign for me!

Excellent food, service and I think value for money considering the surroundings and quality of food. Will be back.
