Honesty is the best policy, especially with food
The Honest Chef is a new service, operating from Clydebank by John Traynor, former head chef at The Finnieston / Kained Holdings and the person behind the Flock pop ups in Glasgow a few years ago. The aim of The Honest Chef is to provide tasty and healthy ready meals direct to your door so literally no effort is required as all the hard work has already been done by a professional chef, all you need to do is re-heat your chosen meal in the microwave. So perfect in these self isolation, fill up the fridge, can’t even be bothered to order a takeaway days.
Each one make a healthy dinner-sized portion, coming in a microwaveable container with ingredients and allergens listed as well as cooking times and use by date, so making honest fast food at home couldn’t be any easier.

Food
We sampled a few of the meals in our delivery and you can find pictures of all of them below.
Firstly, we had Sweet Chilli Prawns (£4) to start (listed as a snack on the website). This was a mix of edamame beans, spring onions & red chilli basmati rice topped with plump prawns. It only needs a couple of minutes in the microwave and then you’re ready to tuck into to the tasty little pot of Asian flavours.
Next up Piri piri chicken, charred broccoli & sweet potato – spiced chicken breast with sweet potato chunks and tenderstem broccoli.
And here it is plated-up so you can clearly see the portion size.
Fajita Spiced Chicken, Roast Peppers & Basmati Rice – a mildly spiced chunk of chicken with mixed peppers, plenty of rice and a wedge of fresh lime.
Tikka Spiced Salmon – salmon coated in Indian spices served alongside spinach and spiced potatoes.
Sirloin steak Served with boiled baby potatoes, fine beans & chimichurri – nicely chargrilled steak that should suit most steak cooking preferences. The chimichurri also has quite a kick!
Yum yum yum. Boiled potatoes are also Mrs Foodie’s favourite way of cooking potato.
Verdict
All of the meals were quick, tasty and well proportioned. For anyone who struggles with cooking times or needs a helping hand at dinner time, especially if you are home-schooling during these crazy times, then these meals are a godsend. Right now there is also a money off offer, where you can claim 20% off when ordering 10 meals. Simply use the code ‘HONEST20’ at the checkout. Note that the Dine At Home steak boxes & Beef Wellington are excluded (this is different to the steak dish described above). There should be enough variety to appease even the most fussy eaters in your family, find details of all the available dishes here: https://honestchef.co.uk/collections

Disclaimer: Fred sez that we received a sample of meals for free, which was great as it meant with the time saved cooking, we could spent more time on belly rubs and dishing out treats.
