Travel: ice cream is big in Japan!

The world’s tallest ice cream for purchase?

The weather recently in the UK has been lovely but due to COVID-19 lockdown we haven’t been able to make the most of it.

Anyway, *thinking happy thoughts* and thinking to trips for the future, a few years’ ago we took a trip to Japan, where we got to try a fair amount of Japanese ice cream (or aisukurīmu as it is genuinely known in Japan) but we also specifically sought out an especially large ice cream cone from Tokyo’s Nakano Broadway shopping complex. It took us a while to find as the shopping centre has a few floors and we discovered it in the basement after checking every other floor first!

A really tall ice cream cone with 8 flavours in Tokyo

Here it is – 8 flavours topped on one another. It’s not officially the world’s tallest ice cream cone – that title went to a stupidly massive one in Norway in 2015 – but this could just be the tallest one that you can actually purchase and hold!

It’s certainly the biggest ice cream cone we’ve ever seen! Mr Foodie (with bad haircut) for scale.

Daily Chico is in the basement of the Nagano shopping complex and worth seeking out. There are 8 flavours in total and you can order them separately or order them all combined like we did here, and then you get to try them all. A smaller cone is also available should you only want one flavour.

When we visited the flavours were: (1) Vanilla, (2) chocolate, (3) strawberry, (4) coffee milk, (5) yakult, (6) melon, (7) green tea and (8) fizzy candy.

Size isn’t everything, or so they say but at 490 yen or £3.37 / $4.49 (at our time of visiting) for all 8 flavours, we were very happy and would happily visit again next time we’re in Japan!

Where

It’s really close to Nakano train station, which was who we got there.
