Laboratorio Espresso, 93 West Nile Street, Glasgow
Best coffee in Glasgow?
This is a fab coffee shop. Funky design, great coffee (Dear Greeen Coffee) and friendly staff. We popped in for an event which was designed to help you pick out different flavours/smells and types of coffee. The coffee was expertly executed by Fun in a cup.
We were given a sheet to fill in with our findings as well as a short discussion after each cup.
Loved the crema on the espresso. Basically Crema is the initial light/tawny colored liquid that comes out during an espresso. It is what causes that ‘Guinness effect’. As the lighter liquid infuses with the darker liquid that comes after, it filters up and ‘settles’.
We worked through three espressos and picked a cannoli to go with each. I liked all of the coffees however we all picked out different tastes and flavours – I sometimes wondered if we were drinking the same coffee?!
Three cannoli flavours, I found the lemon to be the best for cutting through the strong espresso.
At the end, a bonus, some coffee liquer supplied by the chaps at Good Spirits Co. Like kahlua only not as sickly sweet. Was very nice on its own as well as in an espresso.
All in all it was an informative night, keep an eye on their twitter and facebook for events and latest bean types.
