The bad boy of the kitchen returned to Glasgow on Friday for the launch of his latest book and the chance for fans to get close for a book signing.
Mrs Foodie was invited along to Marco Pierre White Steakhouse and Grill to try out the food on offer and meet the man himself.
Would the enfant terrible turn up? Would he say yes to a photo? Thankfully, the press that precedes the man does him no justice. He does look grouchy but warms up so getting a photo with him is no trouble at all, however he still has to pose with his trademark scowl – he has an image to protect after all!
The night’s menu looked astounding, so it took a while to choose…
As a 70’s child I’m a sucker for an old school prawn cocktail so ordered that for starters. Classique meets moderne here, this was well-executed with tasty prawns and just the right amount of lettuce and tangy sauce – top stuff!
Another old favourite for my main, I picked the macaroni which was mushroom heaven with more textures than your typical bowl. The savoury mushroom and creamy sauce was delicious!
Seeking more comfort food, I picked rice pudding, which is another childhood favourite. Creamy sweet rice with hot apricot. Perfect – if only the bowl was bigger!
Each course arrived with an accompanying wine. All of which were delicious, especially the fruity Gewurtztraminer.
We ended the meal with a pear and ginger Old Fashioned made with Black Bottle (Islay blended) whisky, so nice and spicy and smokey.
Many thanks to Hotel Indigo and Marco Pierre White Steakhouse and Grill for the opportunity to visit.
