EDIT: This is now The White Elephant

Smoked chicken and grapefruit salad

Scallops, black pudding and cherry tomato salad with mango and lime vinaigrette

Smoked haddock risotto with a warm poached egg and shaved parmesan

Gnocchi, braised onions, tomato, garlic, spinach, extra virgin olive oil

Five spiced rubbed pork belly, egg noodles, chillies and cashews

Where to start,

Smoked chicken that tasted like the sandwich style chicken out of a supermarket not smoked at all,  overpowering balsamic vinegar.

Scallops were quite fishy tasting which overpowered the rest of the dish, bland black pudding did not blend well with the scallops.  Couldn’t taste vinaigrette at all.

Pork belly was almost all fat, what meat there was was half dry and not moistened by the fat at all.  Rather a large fatty piece.   Noodles were drenched in sauce, which tasted like soy sauce and not a five spice sauce, one cashew as well!

Gnocchi were mushy and more like stodgy dumplings, onions were delish but overall the dish was poor.

Risotto was lovely!

No asking our opinon on any part of the meal, hot plates placed down without warning, when we complained about the meals the owner looked at us blankly.  Offered us desserts which considering  the quality of the other dishes we declined, we didn’t even want to try the coffee.  Three courses inc a glass of wine.

Very bad meal, worst I have had in Glasgow, poor customer service and now I know why the car park was so empty!

  1. Amazing! And the dishes all *look* so nice as well.

  2. they did look the part, but 4 people moaning was too much for the owner. Two people left their dinner full and one half ate it!

  3. Id say that it wont be open much longer. Mr Yuill has tried to bring city centre prices to Merrylee. Christ for a man who is supposed to know his onions , the service in Merrylee always disappoints.

  4. Anyone wishing to see the arrival and behaviour of the 4 diners will soon be able to view their visit from the cctv footage on our website.
In particular I think Strathclydes finest will be interested in the amount of alcohol the driver consumes and then drives away in the blue car in the picture above

  5. Always nice to see a right to reply.

Sadly Gordon makes no attempt to use that to comment on or defend the service and quality of the food. Strangest counter argument I’ve ever read.

It does look nice though, well done the photographer!

  6. Live locally and have been in a few times. I have always found the quality and service to be variable, with the review about right. Agree with Craig on Mr Yuill’s comments.
I agree with Craig that it is bizarre to see him try and discredit the reviewer rather than discuss the shortcomings of his establishment. And worrying to see him use threats in an attempt to stifle comment – maybe he should spend more time in the kitchen rather than in front of the cctv.
As usual, the pics are great – the photographer clearly had no trouble focusing.

  7. I briefly looked in to this place months ago when I happened to be passing. The poor selection of beer convinced me that nothing else in the establishment was likely to be of high quality either, so I have never returned.

  8. Has an absolutely superb meal there on Saturday night. However, had I read Gordon’s comments first I may have thought again.
