Oktoberfest at the heart of Kings Cross in London
Oktoberfest might be officially over, however if you still have a hankering for Oktoberfest Spezialitäten, then a visit to the German Gymnasium is in order.
The Oktoberfest menu is available downstairs at the Grand Café and on the terraces from 11.30am daily until 31st October. Here you will find Brotzeit teller, leberkase and kasespatzle.
Oktoberfest menu at German Gymnasium
I had just alighted from the Eurostar, so needed a drink and sustenance.
So a large beer and a prawn cocktail to start. A crisp pilsner alongside creamy coated shrimp.
Next up, Käsespätzle. This is like a German version of macaroni cheese. Made with pasta that is found in the South of Germany and coated in an Emmenthal cheese sauce and topped with crispy onions.
After the delicate prawn cocktail, the käsespätzle was a robust and earthy dish. Almost as if it was designed to fill up hungry beer drinking mouths.
Verdict
Hearty food and drink which was almost, but not quite like being in Germany.
Service was swift and friendly. It was very busy, but I didn’t feel rushed to eat and go.
Toilets, with accompaying oompah music, were clean
