Paisley Pie Co., our thoughts as they open new location

All eyes on the pies

Ahead of their new shop opening on 2nd September, we eventually dragged our lazy butts to Paisley to try the pies from the Paisley Pie Co.

We’d been meaning to visit since hearing good reports on social media ages ago, but it’s taken us so long to visit that they’re now about to open a newer, bigger location on the main road.

Inside this Tardis of pies you’ll find hot and cold pies, sausage rolls and muffins.  We had just eaten lunch so bought a selection of pies to go.

They safely made it home for a gourmet lunch the following day.

From left to right we have – spicy donner pie, steak and black pudding, and a scotch pie.

We also cooked the chicken chasni pie, however…it decided to get all sticky and collapsed when trying to take it out of the dish.

So, what did the pies taste like?

First up, the donner pie…lots of donner meat encased in a slightly spicy sauce.  The puff pastry top was a hit with us.

Next, the steak and Stornoway black pudding pie.  Both of us didn’t pick up on the black pudding as being specifically the quality stuff from Stornoway, which we are big fans of.  The steak was a little bit chewy but there was a good amount of gravy coating making a well-filled pie.

The Scotch pie was a traditional Scotch pie, not the best one we’ve ever had, but not the worst either.  it wasn’t greasy and full of gristle thankfully but it could do with some more filling into elevate it into the top tier of Scotch pies.

Last up, the chicken chasni pie which decided to fall apart on us when we tried to take it out of the pie tin!

Like the other pies, the puff pastry top was a hit, the rest of the pie…hmm.  Regimental square bits of chicken coated in a sweet sauce.  It was OK, something different but the texture didn’t entice us to eat it tame our cats weren’t interested either.

Overall, some good pies, and could well be the best place for pies in Paisley but is it worth travelling to from Glasgow? Probably not, but if we were passing we would nip in again for something and we will likely visit the new store next time we’re in town as it’s not far from Gilmour Street station.
