Sky-high afternoon tea
Glasgow’s Radisson RED hotel opened in 2018 with an innovative and fun outlook, which has now expanded to encompass an unconventional afternoon tea offering. Just a hop and a skip away (maybe not after the afternoon tea!) from the SEC, SSE Hydro and Armadillo, it’s also close by for the Glasgow Science Centre and IMAX, and a short walk to the Zaha Hadid designed Riverside Museum, so there are plenty of attractions on its doorstep.
The super-stylish bar is Glasgow’s highest rooftop bar with stunning panoramic views across Glasgow too.
Menu
Asian style confit duck & plum sauce served in a bao bun
Smoked bacon & sweet maple doughnut
Southern Fried crispy chicken, topped on a hot waffle with barbeque sauce
Sage, pork & apple sausage roll
A spoonful of hot smoked salmon on a bed of tasty RED quinoa
Classic Strawberry milkshake with retro pink candy floss topper
Fruit scone served with strawberry jam and Chantilly cream
Strawberry & Prosecco jelly pot
Mini RED velvet cake
Drink
Starting with a cocktail from Eden Mill using their Love Gin which is made with juniper, coriander seed and angelica as well as rhubarb root, rose petal, goji berry, elderberry, marshmallow root and raspberry leaf. It’s then infused with hibiscus flowers post distillation. It’s a fresh and fruity gin and just what was needed to settle into our Radisson RED afternoon tea.
Food
We weren’t sure to eat or photograph our afternoon tea! Not your typical selection so there are no boring sandwiches and cakes here.
From the top we have:
Smoked bacon & sweet maple doughnut – If they could just be delivered daily to my home, I would be so happy.
Classic Strawberry milkshake with retro pink candy floss topper – bursting with healthy strawberries and then made decadent with some candy floss.
Mini RED velvet cake – Just the right size for munching, we pretended to be dainty and cut the cake in half.
Next level:
Asian style confit duck & plum sauce served in a bao bun – Fluffy and light bao bun filled with moist duck.
Sage, pork and apple sausage roll – a chunk of sausage in this sausage roll and pasty that doesn’t fall all over the place, hurrah.
Southern Fried crispy chicken, topped on a hot waffle with barbeque sauce – yup, it tasted that good.
A spoonful of hot smoked salmon on a bed of tasty RED quinoa – moist and moreish smoked salmon.
Last level and thankfully so as we were filling up fast!
Fruit scone served with strawberry jam and Chantilly cream – my only gripe, I love clotted cream, so being able to choose to have this would be good.
Strawberry & Prosecco jelly pot – an interesting idea, loved the fresh mint and fruit and another retro touch with childhood memories.

Verdict
Superb. The mother was happy and so was I. A well-balanced mix of sweet and savoury which was so different from the usual boring afternoon tea. It’s also a fantastic setting looking out onto the Clyde and beyond, but with the cosiness and warmth of inside on what was a bit of a dreich day. There is a terrace outside for those sunnier days but regardless of the weather, it won’t be long until we are back. Transport links are good – we travelled to Exhibition Centre railway station but a selection of buses go along Argyle St, plus the X19 to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital stops at Lancefield Quay.
TL;DR
+ Fantastic view
+ No boring cakes or sandwiches
+ Good public transport options
– If only we could get a daily delivery!
