A place to rave about?

The corny headline aside what is there to say about The Raven. At first glance it’s another trendy craft beer bar, but it’s more than that.

Atmosphere

There’s 11 wide screen tv’s, which of course had the World Cup on, but they weren’t in your face and completely dominating the pub. The music was good – thumbs up for my personal fave of BRMC, and at a level you could still have a chat over.

I’d say it was cosy decor no bright illuminated areas to scare your date off here. Muted colours, mood lighting that kind of thing – liked this :).

Beer

The beers on offer were Caesar Augustus, High Wire and Camden Hells on tap as well as the usual suspects of Tennents, Guinness, Estrella, Heverlee, Caledonia and Magners. Great bottled selection – especially liked the Shoreditch Blonde and the Railway Porter. More bottles from Williams Bros – Birds and Bees, March of the Penguins and Seven Giraffes, WEST – St Mungo, Camden – Pale Ale and Gentlemans Wit, Summer Wine – Oregan Pale Ale, Redchurch – Shoreditch Blonde, Five Points – The Railway Porter, Stewarts – Kai Pai and Radical Road as well as Brewdog – Punk IPA and 5am Saint phew! Beer menu can be found here.

Food

Specialising in smoked food such as pulled pork, ribs and chicken but with hot dogs, burritos, sliders, sandwiches, burgers and salads too. Menu can be found here.

As it was a preview tasting we can’t comment on the portion sizes as it was a bit if a get in and help yourself event. We got to try their hot wings. Wow, melt in the mouth chicken meat with a choice of plain, medium or hot. All tasted great.

The sliders were moist and tender, with the mac and cheese slider a good one for me 🙂

There are platters available, myself and Mr C had platter number 3, half chicken and pulled pork with corn on the cob and slaw for £13. A huge amount with deliciously sweet and moist pulled pork.

A good fun part noted was the presentation of a latte. What a great idea!

There’s even a kids menu, with kids welcome until 9pm. Menu can be found here.

As well as all this The Nest area can be hired for free and it even has it’s own private bar.

The Raven opens Wednesday 25th June, and can be found on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and their own website. Give them a shout online, they’re a chatty bunch.

We really liked the vibe of here a good mix of music, football and chat as well as a good range of beers, spirits and cocktails as well as food.
