No bull coffee at Toro

In keeping with the current growing trend of Coffee Shops popping up throughout the city, a new supping hole has recently opened up in Glasgow’s Southside. Toro Coffee Co is located on Pollokshaws Road not far from Shawlands Railway Station and Pollok Park.

Mrs Foodie and I decided to pop in for a nosey the other day and to try the coffee I may add.

When we entered the premises, it was noticeable that the vendors have gone down the Scandinavian & steam punk look, in relation to the decor – copper piping on show, retro style lighting etc. I particularly liked their use of wooden pallets, halved and worked into seating.

The chap serving us was nice and friendly, and advised us what they had to offer.

On the menu was coffee (no surprise there), tea,  cake and toasted bread.  The espresso is a Cartel Narcos Blend, and filter coffee Thomsons, Ethiopia Natural Blend. There is also decaf from Gatehouse from Paisley. Now that’s me done pretending to know about coffee!

I ordered an Americano without milk but I did add sugar.  It was very smooth, not at all bitter like some blends can be, nice aroma.  Mrs Foodie has s flat white but without sugar.  Another thumbs up from her.

There are cakes for sale from The Freedom Bakery from cinnamon buns to traybakes.  All looking tasty indeed.

  1. Great review! It’s always nice to hear what’s going on in coffee shops around the UK. I’ll have to check this out next time I’m in Glasgow! Did they do many flavoured coffees at all? I find they always get more popular in the winter months.

Toro seems to be a strictly flavoured coffee free shop. Concentrating on the different blends. I do like a flavoured coffee tho myself. Do you have a fave?
