Homemade Delicious Scottish beef sausage rolls
Did you know that beef sausage is the meat used inside a Scottish sausage roll and that pork sausage is traditionally an English ingredient? I hadn’t noticed this until a few years ago when I was a judge at The World Championship Scotch Pie Awards when it was brought to my attention. I mean a sausage roll is a sausage roll isn’t it (the right answer seemingly is no!) So here’s a recipe for a Scottish Beef Sausage Roll, we also have a pork sausage roll recipe here.
These Scottish Beef Sausage Rolls freeze well and reheat easily as well.
Ingredients
One Pack puff pastry
500g Beef sausage meat
1 1/4 tsp salt
3/4 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 beaten egg, to brush pastry
Instructions
In a bowl mix together seasoning, nutmeg and beef sausage meat. (Use your hands here it is best)
Roll out the puff pastry.
Roll out the pastry to 1cm thick and 34cm x 30cm.
Halve lengthways and place a strip of mince down the centre of each.
Brush the edges with beaten egg, roll up and seal.
Cut the sausage rolls into whatever size you want.
Place on a lined edged baking tray (This catches any rogue juices)
Pierce each sausage roll with a fork and brush with a little beaten egg white.
