Scottish Home Baking Awards

The Scottish Home Baking Awards was started by Melanie Andrews who owns and runs three premises in Helensburgh.  A proud home baker, Melanie wanted to highlight the best places to visit for real, baked goods – out of the oven and not a packet.

This scheme aims to award the outstanding Homebaking that exists in Scotland and acts as a fantastic online guide to tourists and local people alike to the very best establishments that produce quality Homebaking.

There aren’t bad reviews but highlights of places to go for the best in home baking.  Visits are made incognito, and the nominations are then fed back to the judging panel.

The Mar Hall 5 star Golf + spa Resort, on the banks of the River Clyde will play host to the third Annual Scottish Home Baking Award.

 

This year there have 8 Categories which are as follows:

 

  1. Best Baker from home – No premises
  2. Best Baker – with premises
  3. Best Baker – Market Stall
  4. Best Celebration Cake – to be judged on the day
  5. Best Customer Service
  6. Best Overall Premises – 2013
  7. Best Up and Coming Baker
  8. New Online Category

The three main Judges for Mar Hall are Lady Claire Macdonald ,Mark Greenaway and Melanie Andrews. Claire from Kinloch Lodge Isle of Skye and numerous Cookery books to her name is an expert in this field .Mark Greenaway from The restaurant Mark Greenaway in Edinburgh and various TV appearances has a speciality in all things sweet .And last but not least a Baker for almost half a century with 4 x Tearooms ,Numerous Bakery Books and the Founder of the Scottish Home Baking Awards.

Hello!

I am Emma and with my husband Mark write Foodie Explorers, which is a food and travel website.

I am a member of the Guild of Food Writers and British Guild of Travel Writers.

We have a wide range of judging experience covering products, hotels and have judged, for example, for Great Taste Awards and Scottish Baker of the Year.

Along the way Mark gained WSET Level 2 in Wine and I have WSET Level 2 in Spirits as well as picking up an award with The Scotsman Food and Drink Awards.    

Usually I can be found sleeping beside a cat.
