Looking for budget accommodation near St Andrews – try The Golden Acorn Hotel  Glenrothes

St Andrews is notorious for expensive accommodation, even the student halls of residence are dear! So what to do?  Well, you could try visiting The Golden Acorn in Glenrothes as we did.  At £52.50 for the room, for both of us for a night we were a little apprehensive.  Would it be loud?   Would it smell of chips?  or be the worst sleep ever?

Checking In

Checking in was easy, into the bar and there is an area signposted ‘Hotel check in”.  We checked in painlessly and in 10 minutes were in our room and settling down.

What is in your room at a Wetherspoons Hotel

Inside you will find:-

iron and ironing board, fan, hospitality tray including oat milk, free water, Freeview tv, and free wifi.

As you can see there was a good amount of space.  The bed was big and firm, wide enough for a good sprawl.

A full hospitality tray with oat milk as well as the normal UHT stuff.  If you wish, you can go to the bar and get fresh tea and coffee from the machine.

The bathroom had a large bath and shower, towles, heated towel rail and toiletries.  There was plenty of room for our bits and pieces.

Verdict

Handy for transport, it is next to Glenrothes bus station and not far from the A92.  We are happy to say that the room, and indeed the hotel did not smell of chips!  The room was clean, tidy and had everything we needed.

The area around was quiet, our only minus was that we could hear the alarm in the morning from the adjoining room.
