Comfortable, family-run hotel in Scotland
Our tradition that lapsed during Covid times was to go away for New Year. This year we didn’t go far, Biggar in South Lanarkshire. Famous for its New Year bonfire and being a town we have visited before (The Elphinstone) we booked a room at The Kirkstyle Hotel.
It’s on the High street through Biggar so easy to find. The reception is signposted from the main road.
Lots of seating outside for when the weather is better. The breakfast room also operates as a cafe until 4 pm. (We’ll have to return to try this as due to New Year opening hours it was closed)
Checking in was quick and easy, and we were soon in our room.
Our Room
Twin beds attached, so a HUGE big bed to spawl. TV, kettle, biscuits, tea/coffee/hot chocolate, fresh milk (hurrah!), and chilled water in the mini-fridge.
Spare pillows, iron and ironing board.
Scottish Fine Soaps Silver Buckthorn is in the bathroom – we are big fans of their stuff, so it’s good to see. A shower and towel warmer.
Breakfast
As we were staying for a couple of days, we got to try a couple of their breakfast dishes.
Verdict
A comfortable and welcoming hotel with everything you need for a short break. It is also dog friendly. Right in the middle of Biggar within walking distance of bars and restaurants as well as activities such as visiting Biggar and Upper Clydesdale Museum or walking around the area.
