Loved this place. We juggled between here and The Stockbridge next door and I’m glad we plumped for here.

Hot smoked salmon, chicory, walnuts, crispy tattie scone strips £5.50 for him – yummy althought the tattie scone strips were a bit crunchy. Duck liver parfait, sourdough toasts, beetroot and red onion marmalade £5.50 Again lovely although the toast was a little too crunchy and the marmalade wasn’t marmalady enough.

and mains – for him – Roast saddle of rabbit, bubble and squeak polenta £8.50 – Gorgeous again, loved the polenta and Grilled Arbroath smokie, young spinach, chive butter sauce £8.50 – huge meaty chunks of haddy and creamy buttery sauce – bliss. I had sweet potato wedges with Alioli which although great, mash would’ve been nicer (which wasnt on the menu!)

desserts – for him – Scotch pancakes, Glenfiddich whisky creme fraiche, toffee sauce £4.50 and for me Selection of Ian Mellis’ cheeses, apple preserve £6.00 Yummy!!!

we went for their cheapest glass of white which was very nice too! (wine was a 2008 Rubicone IGT Trebbiano)

Service was friendly and quick and not intrusive.

£48 for two of us and a glass of wine each.
