Tomatin’s Five Virtues range expands
Tomatin has released another expression from its Five Virtues range. Joining Wood and Fire is the third whisky, Earth, and we received a wee sample to taste test.
Inspired by the natural elements involved in the production of Tomatin whisky, Five Virtues includes Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. I was looking forward to trying Tomatin Earth, as I jumped straight into peaty malts when younger and they are still a firm favourite. This is peaty, not a totally in your face peatiness like some Islay whiskies, there’s more vanilla and smokey with almond notes here. The peat-dried malted barley gives this whisky a distinct taste making it perfect for drinking on its own. Relax, pour a glass and forget about the cold outside. 🥃
Graham Eunson, Tomatin Distillery Manager, responsible for curating the Five Virtues collection, said: “The Earth expression is unique within the Five Virtues series – and indeed our entire range of single malts – because of its peaty profile. We only distil with peated barley for two weeks of every year and this spirit is never usually released under the Tomatin brand name.”
Tomatin Earth has a limited run of 6,000 bottles and can be enjoyed from specialist whisky retailers at £49.99 for 70cl.
The remaining two expressions, Metal and Water, will be released early 2018. For additional information, please visit www.tomatin.com/5virtues.
Disclaimer: we received a free miniature of the new whisky. Fred says he’s sure it’s a great malt despite cats not liking alcohol!
