Finding the right angle at Twelve Triangles
Edinburgh favourite Twelve Triangles Kitchen Table first began in 2017 at 148 Duke Street in Leith. The kitchen table has now relocated to their Easter Road location and we were invited along to experience brunch.
Inside Twelve Triangles Kitchen Table
At the counter, you will find a selection of sweet and savoury items for sit-in or takeaway.
It’s homely and welcoming with mismatched tables and chairs alongside white wood panelling to give it a casual and relaxed atmosphere.
Kitchen Table Menu
Here are the daily specials on our visit, we were tempted by the Oaxaca Cheese Toast but decided to stick with the regular menu.
What we ate and drank
Starting off with a pot of Earl Grey and a long black, just to ease into the day.
Mark was quick off the mark to get a photo of our brunch at the serving hatch near to our table.
Being close by, we got to nosey at other dishes coming out. This is the hash browns with fried egg, kimchi, gochujang and sesame seed fried summer greens (one for next time perhaps?).
Back to ours, Mark had ordered the focaccia sandwich with free-range chicken, crispy skin, walnut salsa verde, Sichuan creme fraiche, watercress and fresh herbs. This was massive with moist and flavoursome chicken in huge chunks inside a sliced focaccia which was slathered in flavour. This was a sandwich worthy of the journey. We both agreed this was a doorstop ‘sammich’.
I picked the elderflower granola with homemade yoghurt, sunflower seeds, gooseberry compote, almond and pistachio butter, with fresh strawberries. Tart and creamy yoghurt topped with easy-to-eat granola (none of those huge chunks that nearly break your teeth!). Layers of flavour from the gooseberry compote and the nutty butter. I might even be inspired to make my own nut butter at home.
You know that we love bread and butter, so we had to order some of the Twelve Triangles sourdough with butter and jam. Soft inside with a chewy crust, just what we like.
To complete our visit we moved onto cake. I picked a slice of honey tart, which wasn’t as sweet as the usual syrup tart which it seems to be styled on, with just the right amount of sweetness with an almost honey nut cornflake-like taste.
Mark opted for the Basque cheesecake with apricot compote. It was just as expected, superb. Creamy and fluffy with creme caramel bittersweet notes. Perfect.
You can probably guess that we enjoyed our visit to Twelve Triangles – Kitchen Table. The dishes were freshly made and filling. We both agreed that the focaccia sandwich was worth travelling for alone!
