Unlimited chicken wings, beer and prosecco in Fitzrovia

Scoring a touchdown in London’s Fitzrovia

There’s not much that can entice me out of the house on a cold and rainy Sunday night in London, except maybe the promise of unlimited chicken wings and beer…

Step up then, Nordic, a late-night Scandinavian-inspired sports and party bar that has recently reopened and is offering just that; the ‘Bottomless Viking’ – unlimited chicken wings matched with beer or prosecco.

Having spent time living in the USA, and having a boyfriend who is sports OBSESSED, we thought we knew what we were letting ourselves in for when we ventured into central London to check out Nordic’s offerings.

The bar sits in Fitzrovia, the cute little bit of London behind Goodge Street and Tottenham Court Road. Once we found it (it’s downstairs from the street), we entered into a teenage boys’ dream bar – live sports on every screen, retro arcade games, beer pong and dim lights. The space is small, and was full of people who were having a very good time, especially with the bar’s generous happy hour and its infamous ‘Wheel of Misfortune’ (a spin-the-wheel type game behind the bar that has a different shot you must take depending where the wheel stops).

The crowd was surprising for a Sunday night, but we pushed our way through and managed to find a space at the back, directly opposite one of the live sports screens – the perfect position to watch the NFL.
We sat for a while before anyone served us, and it was unclear what the deal was with the unlimited drinks and chicken wings, but soon the manager found us and explained the situation: we could choose either Thor’s Piss (sic) House Lager or prosecco (we didn’t have to go for the same thing), and the chicken wings were unlimited, all other food was extra. I went for the prosecco and my boyfriend stuck to the USA theme, going for beer.

Now, I like spicy food, but this was on another level. You can choose between Frank’s Redhot® Original Cayenne Pepper or BBQ sauce on the wings, served with a Blue Cheese or BBQ dip, so we tried them all. The chicken wings were cooked well, with crispy skin and juicy meat, but I’d recommend the BBQ if you’re not an expert with spice. While the drinks (slowly) flowed, I knew the chicken wings weren’t going to hold me, so I ordered “dirty” tater tots and fries from the menu, nice enough but more for substance than taste.

The real highlight had to be the retro arcade game that we went on to play once the NFL had finished – Pac-Man and Prosecco might be my new favourite pastime combination!
